These are the 'Key Features' of the MPFS
'Private Medical Insurance (PMI) Plan'

"Why should I read this document?"

The Financial Services Authority is the independent financial services regulator. It requires us, the Metropolitan Police Friendly Society, to give you this important information to help you decide if the MPFS Private Medical Insurance (PMI) Plan is right for you.

We want you to be comfortable that you understand the 'Key Features' of this product before you decide to proceed. If you do not understand something in this document, please feel free to contact us:

Its aims

  • To offer the convenience of private healthcare and avoid NHS delays and waiting lists.
  • To pay for the cost of private medical treatment in the UK (see 'Table of Benefits').
  • To provide a Hospital Cash Benefit for each night spent in hospital where treatment is provided by the NHS, or in an EU hospital outside the UK.

Your commitment

  • You must give us all medical and other information we ask for when applying for your plan and advise us of any material changes occuring after you complete your application form but before cover starts (see 'How do I apply?').
  • You must make all the regular premium payments needed for the length of the plan (see 'What if I stop paying premiums?').
  • You may have to make a co-payment towards the costs of treatment (see 'What are the charges?').

Risks

  • Certain causes of claim won't be covered (see 'When will my plan NOT pay out?').
  • If the main member cancels the plan, leaves the police service or becomes ineligible for any other reason, cover will cease for all insured persons.
  • Premiums payable are regularly reviewed and may change (see 'How much does the plan cost?')
  • We reserve the right to cease providing the plan on giving 3 months' notice.
