Geoff joined the Metropolitan Police Service in 1979 and has had MPFS policies since his start. In 1992, he was involved in Operation Bumblebee and was responsible for the collection, retention and identification of stolen property. This progressed to publicity and sponsorship. In 1998, he moved to Southwark where he became the Inspectors' Federation representative. He became a member of the MPFS board as their representative in 2001. In 2004, Geoff was promoted to Chief Inspector and was posted to Greenwich and was responsible for the Borough Intelligence unit, Partnership, and then the 02 development. He has just moved to lead the Stop and Search team at Empress State Building.
Peter joined the City of London Police in 1979 and has had policies with the MPFS from the beginning. Over the years he has had control of a number of internal budgets. He is an Inspector and currently project manager for a multi-million pound project accountable both internally and nationally for the money spent. In 2006, Peter volunteered to take over from Mark Winchester, on his retirement, as the City representative. At the moment he is a member the Audit Committee. In his spare time he is Treasurer for his local Church.
Bob spent seven years in the City working in marine insurance before joining the Metropolitan Police in 1967. After service in the East End and Catford, he moved to the Dog Section, becoming the Deputy Chief Instructor at the training establishment in Keston. On promotion to Chief Inspector, he served at Lewisham before joining No 4 HQ staff as the Personnel Officer with responsibility for staffing and training. As a Superintendent, Bob became the Secretary of the Superintendents' Association on 4 Area before taking up the full time post for London, No 9 Region. Bob undertook national responsibilities for the Association, and also welcomed the opportunity to serve on the MPFS board as their representative. Since retiring, Bob has maintained a keen interest in the Society. His other interests iinclude local government, and he serves as a Councillor.
David qualified as a solicitor at the age of 22 and has worked in the City of London for all his working life. In a career spanning over 30 years, David has undertaken a considerable variety of legal work, including taking a leading case to the House of Lords, as well as acting as an advocate, particularly in relation to family and licensing work. As his career has developed, David has concentrated more on property and commercial work, although he continues to enjoy his specialist matrimonial practice, where there is constant opportunity to help people in times of emotional difficulty. David personally has been advising the Society since 2000, and his firm for many years before that.
Eileen qualified as a certified accountant in 1971 whilst working for British Rail, subsequently she joined a professional practice to gain wider experience. In 1975, she joined British Gas as a Management Accountant and worked there for 22 years, her final post being Area Finance Manager, London & South East for Centrica based at Croydon. In 1998, Eileen joined the Metropolitan Police as Business Accountant for 3 Area; she has also worked for 1 Area, Territorial Policing and, until she retired in June 2007, was a Business Support Accountant for Central Operations. Eileen served as a committee member for the Central London Society of Certified Accountants for 14 years and was its President for 2 years. She was Treasurer of an amateur theatre company for many years and now audits its accounts. Eileen joined the MPFS Board in 2003 and was the first member of police staff to serve on the Board.
Mike McAndrew is 'senior career advisor for superintending ranks' in the MPS Career Management Unit having retired as a police officer on 1st. April, 2007 after 38 years service. Prior to retirement he was the full-time London Secretary for the Superintendents' Association and a member of the Association's National Executive Committee. He was the Association's National Lead for HR. His last operational post as a police officer in the MPS was Traffic OCU Commander. Mike is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. And a member of the Institute of Directors.
Paul joined the Metropolitan Police in 1977, immediately after graduating from London University, Goldsmiths College. He is Chairman of the Sergeants' Central Committee of the Police Federation of England & Wales, as well as Chairman of the Police Federation Professional Standards (Discipline) and Health and Safety Committees. He is an executive member of the Police Federation Joint Central Committee, the Metropolitan Federation Joint Executive Committee and the Metropolitan Sergeants' Branch Board. He sits on the police pay negotiating body, PNB. Paul represents the Police Federation on a number of Home Office and ACPO Committees and on the Independent Police Complaints Commission Advisory Board. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a Freeman of the City of London and a member of the Institute of Directors.
Mick spent 40 years in the Metropolitan Police, retiring in July 2006. In his final post, he was Commander of Operations with responsibilities including event policing, major incident response, emergency planning and public order training. During his career, Mick joined both the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and the Chartered Management Institute. In addition to his long service on the Society's Board, he has chaired the Metropolitan and City Police Orphans Fund and served in other welfare posts. Mick has also been deputy chairman of the MPAA and chaired their General Purpose Committee. He currently holds the post of Commander of Prince of Wales's District of St John Ambulance, and is also a member of the Institute of Directors.
Doug worked for an engineering company for 6 years after leaving North Staffordshire Polytechnic. He joined the Metropolitan Police in 1988 and has served on several boroughs including Orpington and Peckham. He is currently serving on Sutton Borough as the Crime Prevention Design Advisor. Doug is Treasurer for the South East Area Sports & Social Club and the South East Area Orphans. He is also on the MPAA committee and takes an active role in the fly-fishing section.
Graham joined the Metropolitan Police Service in 1981. He has served on several South East and Central London Boroughs as well as a number of HQ postings. He has been a Chief Inspector since 1997 and is currently head of the MPS Emergency Procedures Unit, part of CO3 Emergency Preparedness OCU, based at New Scotland Yard. His department has responsibility for developing the MPS plans for dealing with major incidents and emergencies. He is a member of the London Emergency Services Liaison Panel (LESLP) and a member of numerous committees and working groups formed under the London Regional Resilience Forum. He has been a member of the MPFS board since 1999.
Stuart has spent his career in insurance. He qualified as an actuary in 1978 and has served in a voluntary capacity on his profession's committees. He left Milliman, a firm of consultants, in 2006 to join MPFS as Chief Executive. During his 30 years with Milliman (and its forerunners) in London, Stuart gave advice to many UK and overseas clients and was appointed as the statutory actuary to many small firms. He was also engaged in expert witness work - particularly where insurance funds were being merged. Stuart took a keen interest in investment matters and, in his early career, worked for both pensions and non-life insurance clients. In his later consulting career, his clients included a number of friendly societies - and his work for MPFS dates back to 1985.
John worked in purchasing and accounts before joining the Police Service in 1964. He spent 30 years in the Metropolitan Police, promoted to Police Sergeant. John was treasurer for a couple of the social clubs during this period. On joining MPFS in 1995, John was active in giving our talks to at Hendon to new recruits, at Training Days and at pre-retirement courses as part of our pastoral work. As Treasurer, he now heads the accounts department, where he has developed the direct credit system used to pay most of our benefits to members. He has also been Secretary of the Society for the last 5 years.
Don joined the Metropolitan Police as a cadet in 1970, becoming a constable at Bow Street in 1972. He also served at Peckham and was the General Secretary of the Metropolitan Police Federation Joint Executive Committee from 2001 until his retirement in 2005, when he joined MPFS. During this time, he was a Trustee of the Combined Benevolent Fund and the Metropolitan Police Sports Fund. Don is Deputy Chief Executive and has responsibility within the Society for compliance, marketing and personnel - as well as helping with our pastoral work. He is also currently the Chairman of the London Branch of the National Association of Retired Police Officers (NARPO) and is a member of the Institute of Directors.
