Introduction to metfriendly

metfriendly is a Society that provides financial services to the Police Service - including family members (see eligibility). We are therefore able to tailor our products to your needs and negotiate special rates on your behalf.

We are a mutual insurer - owned by our members. The roots of the Society go back to 1893 when the Metropolitan Police Provident Association was formed. metfriendly was established in its current form in 1948. At the end of 2010, the Society had assets of £91 million.

Our Board and Committees are representative of our membership and include insurance and legal professionals as well as serving and retired members of the Police Service. We are committed to helping you. Some of our staff have served 30 years in the Met - others a similar time in financial services.

What We Do

We are regularly invited to give talks at training events throughout the Met - often delivering on behalf of the Money Advice Service. Over the years, the Society has introduced many members to an independent mortgage adviser, if you would like further information please click here. We have also helped several members - or their bereaved partners - cope with probates.

metfriendly will provide you with information about our savings, investment, and protection products and services so that you can make an informed decision. No-one is paid to sell to you or offer you financial advice! But if you have any questions, we will answer them. You benefit from our low costs.

With Profit Business

All of our savings and investment products are invested in our with-profits fund, which aims for a prudent level of investment in shares and property to supplement our holdings in government and corporate bonds. We add bonuses to your plan each year and on encashment. See the With Profits section of this website for more information.

We are proud of the investment returns we have achieved for our members (see our past performance).

We are committed to:

  • controlling the investment risks we take in order to achieve good returns, and
  • providing fair returns to all members, even when you have to cash in early.
