This is the second year I have had the privilege to judge this competition and again I have had an excellent selection of photos to choose from!
Submission of entries to specific categories has made it more challenging for entrants although I really felt that this was a far more serious competition this year.
Due to the higher number of submissions and the very high quality I was a little more demanding in relation to sharpness, exposure etc. and many images that were artistically very good were eliminated early on in my selection process. It was very rewarding to be able to lift the selection criteria in this way.
Some entrants seemed to find it difficult to ensure that their entry fitted an individual category so I used a fairly wide interpretation for my selection process to ensure that I had a large pool for my final selection.
Seasons was a particularly difficult category as there were so many more for the winter than any other season and I didn't feel I could select 2 or more of the seasons category for winter, so again needed to be a little selective with my final choice to capture the different seasons.
I am very heartened to feel that the MPFS will again be able to produce a very high quality calendar from this competition and maybe once people see the result it will encourage more people to take up photography once they see the results that can be achieved by amateur photographers.
